Methodology: Parental transfer decision is estimated using Tobit and random-effect Tobit models. Migrants choice of destination is theoretically modeled as utility maximization problem and empirically estimated using conditional logistic regression method
Empirical base of research: RLMS-HSE 2003-2013, Generation and Gender Survey 2004, Tajikistan Living Standards Survey 2007 and 2009
Results of research: We find strong evidence that parental transfers negatively respond to recipient income. Our results suggest existing inertia in the geography of migrants’ concentration: previously chosen destinations largely define future ones. We find that migration experience restricts the effect of receiving regions’ economic characteristics.
