This fourth IZA/Higher School of Economics workshop brought together labor economists who are working on labor market adjustment in the post-Soviet states that emerged from the breakup of the Soviet Union, post-transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe as well as China. Papers selected provided geographical balance of the mentioned areas of the post-Soviet space and of China. While the main focus of the workshop relates to a long-term view of labor market adjustment since the onset of transition, special session was also dedicated to the impact of COVID-19 on labor markets in emerging and post-transition economies.

CLMS Research Fellow Eugenia Chernina presented her joint paper with CLMS Director Vladimir Gimpelson "Do Wages Grow over Experience? Deciphering the Russian Puzzle", and CLMS Senior Research Fellow Aleksey Oshchepkov presented a paper "Why Do Wages Rise with Job Seniority in Post- Socialist Countries: New Evidence from Russia "(joint work with CLMS Director Vladimir Gimpelson and CLMS Deputy Director Rostislav Kapeliushnikov).

CLMS fellows also chaired the sessions. Vladimir Gimpelson moderated session E "The COVID Pandemic and the Labor Market", CLMS Leading Research Fellow Hartmut Lehmann - sessions A "Shocks, Mobility and Well-Being: Short-Run and Long-Run Perspectives" and F "Government Policies and the Labor Market ", CLMS Senior Research Fellow  Aleksey Oshchepkov - session B" Lessons from East Germany's Economic Transition ".
