Online-conference "Social and non-cognitive skills and labour market"
Online-conference "Social and non-cognitive skills and labour market", organized within the framework of the HSE Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre, was held on September, 22, 2022.
The focus of the studies presented at the conference is the productive components of human capital outside of education and work experience. These are personality traits and interpersonal skills that are formed in early childhood as a result of targeted investments in their development conducted by the families. Over the course of a lifetime, they bring a variety of returns, determining both the success of later investments in various skills, as well as educational achievements and labor market behavior.
During the conference, various consequences of non-cognitive and social skills were considered, namely, the effects on the type of employment of Russian workers, the demand for skills, the characteristics of returns from non-cognitive skills for health and labour productivity (on the example of Russian academics). The conference also analyzed the methodological problems and limitations of previous economic studies, enabling to outline the features of the further development of this research direction.
