Russians Only Live Well Thanks to ‘Grey’ Incomes

The widespread belief that wage increases in Russia outstrip growth in productivity is no more than a myth, Deputy Director of the HSE Centre for Labour Market Studies,  Rostislav Kapelyushnikov  claims in an article ‘Productivity and wages: a little simple arithmetic’. Besides, in recent years we have seen a fall in the cost of labour, particularly in industry.

Many Russians Prefer Public Sector Jobs

Public sector employees are better off in the regions with fewer users of public services, substantial federal subsidies, and high unemployment. In such regions, a public sector job can bring in just 20% less pay than a private sector job, according to Anna Sharunina, Junior Research Fellow of the HSE's Centre for Labour Market Studies. Her findings are based on a multi-sectoral analysis of wage differences across different Russian regions

Two-hundredth Working Paper Published

The 200th anniversary working paper was issued on September 5, 2013, in the series ‘Sociology’ and was dedicated to the problems of employment. The author of the paper is Anna Zudina, Junior Research Fellow of the HSE Centre for Labour Market Studies.

World Bank Publications issued a monograph ‘A Unified Approach to Measuring Poverty and Inequality: Theory and Practice’ by Michael Lokshin, Leading Research Fellow at the Centre for Labour Market Studies, who co-authored this along with his colleagues from the World Bank, James Foster, Suman Seth and Zurab Sajaia.
